Geraldton Radio (VIN)

Geraldton Radio opened on 12 May 1913. The town is situated about 300 kilometres north of Perth and, at the time the station was opened, was one of the largest wheat ports in Australia; it boasted a population of 2,000 - 3,000. It was also a booming fishing port.

Geraldton Radio maintained a 24-hour watch on coastal waters to the west and north-west, and assisted Perth Radio by handling traffic overloads when that station was busy.

After AWA took control of the CRS, some modifications and renovations were carried out to Geraldton in 1930. A new mast was erected and a new 2 kW transmitter was installed for coastal radio work.
